1. We will perform a full assessment for all skill levels in the department
2. The Gap in knowledge determined by the assessment will be the information used to determine the educational action plan to improve the skill set of each staff member.

Full Sterilization Documentation Review
1. We will perform a full assessment for all Reprocessing aspects in the department
2. All automated or manual documentation opportunities will be prioritized and implemented.
3. The Quality Assurance Team will assist with the documentation review and will assist with the action plan to improve the process.

Policy & Procedure Review
1. We will perform a full assessment for all Policies & Procedures related to the department
2. All Policies & Procedures (P&Ps) will be updated according to industry standards and the healthcare organization’s P&P review schedule.
3. Our team will also ensure the organization has a policy for any aspect of sterile processing not present.

Tracking System Utilization and Data Accuracy Review
1. We will perform a full instrument tracking assessment for the department
2. Our Team will determine the accuracy of the instrument tray and the peel pack inventory within the instrument tracking system
3. We will also assess the instrument detail to determine the accuracy of the items on the countsheets match the prime vendor’s items on the countsheets.
4. The departmental scanning compliance will also be determined to ensure the staff is accurately scanning all aspects of the process as this leads to accurate productivity reports.
5. Our Team will assess the ability of the leadership team to effectively use the data within the tracking system to effectively manage the operations and promote productivity.

Departmental Throughput Review
1. We will perform a full throughput review for the department
2. Our Team will determine the average daily number of trays used by all procedural areas to have an understanding of the equipment needs of the department from decontamination to sterile storage.
3. This assessment will start in the decontamination area to ensure the equipment and the staff present is capable of meeting the demand.
4. The Prep and Packing/Sterilization area will be next to determine the overall capacity of the workstations and the sterilization equipment is capable of handling the instrument volume from the decontamination area.
5. Our Team will assess the sterile storage area to ensure there is adequate capacity to house the instrumentation inventory.

OR End of Case Review
1. We will perform a full assessment of how the OR prepares the instruments for reprocessing
2. Our Team will determine any areas of opportunity to improve the end of case procedures to help improve the reprocessing of the instruments.
2. We will also work with the operating room team to ensure they place the instruments back into the tray they came from to help mitigate lost instruments.

SPD Budget Review
1. We will perform a full budget review for the department
2. Our Team will determine the department’s ability to operate within the current budget or help identify the need to increase or decrease the department’s subaccounts to better operate within the determined budget.
3. We will help the SPD Leadership understand their current budgets and also help them forecast the future budgets as the department expands to meet the needs of the procedural areas.
